FBI Agent Samantha "Sam" Black, worked kidnapping cases for 7 years. On her last case, recovering Elizabeth Beck, daughter of Thomas Beck (CEO of Beck International), Sam was hit by one of Piper's Pshuriken & her partner was killed by a Talent named Piper. However, as Piper made to end Elizabeth's life in front of the fallen agent, Sam's Talent emerged, she manipulated the shadows in the room to drag Piper kicking & screaming to...somewhere else.

Sam quit the bureau several months later, as she blamed her supervisor for poor planning that lead to the death of her partner, and if not for her Talent the deaths of Elizabeth & Sam herself.

Beck, then approached her, saying he didn't want ANYONE to go through this again. He created the Hope Foundation, which would help bring kidnapped victims back at any cost, for free. It generates money by taking donations & providing & training security teams on the best ways to prevent kidnappings to the wealthy & powerful.

The Team consists of:

  • Sam Black--She controls shadows, but hates it, beceause everytime she uses her powers she hears Piper talking to her--and each time it gets closer.
  • Nathan "Metaman" & Rita "Microwoman" Stearn--Two former members of the Crusaders, who's son, Scott, was kidnapped and is presumed dead. Metaman can assume any shape & Microwoman controls microwaves. They are officially retired, so rarely appear in costume.
  • Elizabeth Beck--who is now a Junior in college & is seeking her degree in Behavioral Psychology. She uses her experiences to help those they recover.
  • Brass--Nothing is known of his real name or history. His skin is unbreakable & he's there to cross the line the others won't. He's also a gourmet chef & loves kids. Sam believes a sibling of his was kidnapped.
  • Robin Hatcher--Hatcher is a pulitzer prize, now retied journalist, and a former Bestselling author of crime fiction. He's very spry for being 56, but could easily pass for 40 & is rugged handsome. He's Sam's partner on most investigations & has useful Retrocognition powers.

So far, 1-800-RES-CUE, has a 94% retrieval rate. Currently, the authorities are wary of their presence, since in 61% of the cases the kidnappers suffer fatal injuries.
