I was thinking about the Tcho tcho today and I had a thought. This may clash a bit with some of the previous discussions on the Tcho tcho but hear me out. Surely the different pockets of Tcho tcho that exist around Asia would have some cultural, linguistic and even physical differences depending on where they called home.

The corebook mentions that the Tcho are of "various costume and height", which supports this idea. So your Burmese Tcho, your high plains of Sung Tcho and your Tibetan Tcho are likely to exhibit a number of differences (sounds like the beginnings of a Miskatonic U. doctorate here).

That got me thinking, what really makes a Tcho tcho a Tcho tcho is more than just Asian features and a penchant for human flesh, but is the result of the intermixing of humans with the vile amphibious Miri Nigri. Chaugnar Faugn's resting place is in mountainous Central Asia, and throughout the centuries many peoples have lived and migrated through this region. The Miri Nigri need not have just interbred with Asian-looking people, but could have created halfbreeds from other stocks as well. DG corebook links the Tcho to the Tochoa or the Yueh-chih, which as far as Wikipedia can guide me corresponds to the Tocharians, an ancient Indo-European group in Central Asia, also called the Tusharas in Indian literature.

Now, lets assume that the Tochoa occupy the historical position in DG history that the Tocharians occupied in mundane history. DG mentions that the point of origin may be the Pyrennies, which suggests a long migration. The Tocharians were said to have Caucasian features, if the Tochoa became the Tcho tcho, it would seem that the different strains of the Tcho tcho might take on the characteristics of the peoples they find themselves among.

This would mean that there could be pockets of Tcho tcho in other parts of Asia or Europe which resembled Middle Easterners, South Asians and Caucasians. This would mean that the bastards could show up anywhere, looking like anything, perhaps always dwarfish and degenerate but with a remarkable degree of variation. Imagine Tcho tcho branches existing in northern Iraq, the Balkans or Russia. Would be a good way to subvert player expectations.

Story Seed 1: A community of Tcho-tcho Americans are desperately attempting to assimilate into the population, by taking mostly partners from outside of the community. This is merely an attempt to spread the curse of the Miri Nigri and create Tcho-tcho that resemble the classic WASP-style American. Perhaps this group escaped DG notice by concentrating on a small community, and now a large number of half-Tcho-tcho-America are moving out into the wider community in search of education, jobs, partners and sacrifices.

Story Seed 2: How about the various pockets of Tcho-tcho around the world begin to contact each other using the modern media, and come up with a way to partner-swap between the different collectives, in order to maintain and enhance the Miri Nigri blood. Perhaps even a plan to use controlled breeding to recreate the original species of Miri Nigri themselves. This plan could use the resources of Genetic Agricultural Products to achieve their goal, and perhaps GAP could even introduce the Miri Nigri bloodline into other organisms, from genetically modified crops to viruses. The Cthulhu cult may be shattered, but the spread of the dark brood of Chaugnar Faugn throughout the world is an even greater danger. Besides, I was thinking the lesser-known GOO needed some more DG mileage anyway.
