Project Nemesis is a fan driven website for games that use the One-Roll Engine (like Nemesis, Wild Talents, Reign and Monsters) or Chaosium's Basic Roleplay System (BRP) (like Call of Cthulhu) and the Delta Green setting.
This book was written by a Doctor James Black who made anthropological
studies of various African tribes during the early 19th century, and
discovered several with bizarre physical and mental abnormalities. He
later acquired several members of these tribes through the slave trade
and secretly murdered and disected these individuals.
The book contains notes about the tribes' writing and language, from an absurdly racist 19th century viewpoint. The tribes had in common the worship of bizarre, alien totems totally unlike anything of nearby tribes who displayed no such abnormalities.
Also contained in the book, at least one copy of which is bound in the skin of one of the natives (DNA analysis could turn up some VERY weird results) are details of the dissection experiments of the natives, who were in fact at various stages of transformation into something entirely inhuman.
Dr Black is thought to have vanished after a second expedition to Africa, presumed eaten by cannibals. The book was widely discredited by the scientific establishment and few copies were sold; it never made it to mainstream publication (where it could have done very well for the freak-show hungry public of the time).
