Strikeforce: Morituri was a Marvel title from the mid- to late-80s, independent of the mainstream universe. The central concept was that, in the face of an overwhelming alien invasion, Earth scientists develop a means of bestowing superpowers upon human subjects. The drawback, however, was that the powers were inherently incompatible with the human physique and that, within a year, would inevitably kill the individual.

In the course of events, the powers developed steadily over the year and then erupted suddenly (and explosively) in a sort of massive allergic response. Looking over the Flaws list, I couldn't find anything that fit the bill. Backfires and Depleted aren't severe enough, and One Use gets at the right feel, but is way off in actual application.

So this is what I cooked up. It's in first draft form, but kick the tires and see what shakes out. I'm most interested in the value of return. Is the point-return for the flaw suitable to the severity of the drawback? Too little? Too much?

FATAL(variable)
Applies to dice pool powers only. When the maximum die pool has been exceeded through improvement (i.e. 11d, or any combination of regular dice, hard dice, or wiggle dice), the character has effectively overloaded his capacity to contain and withstand the power, and he dies.

Not such a big deal – just don't buy up the die pool that high, right? Here's the catch – you have to. For every Experience Point earned, you must invest a certain amount toward the improvement of this power. When sufficient Experience Points have been invested, the power is immediately improved to the next power level. Very costly miracles become obtainable, but the tab is paid at the expense of the individual's lifespan.

There are five levels of this flaw. At -1/2/4, one Experience Point must be invested in the power for every four earned (1:3). At -2/4/8, one Experience Point must be invested for every three points earned (1:2). At -3/6/12, one point must be invested for every two points earned (1:1). At -4/8/16, two points must be invested for every three earned (2:1). At -5/10/20, three points must be invested for every four earned (3:1).

I like this flaw. Very well thought out. Would have to be in a setting that revolved around it though, as it is very brutal by the way of character death. I guess it could also be used as a way of Humanity responding to the "threat" (real or percieved) presented by the talents. Kinda a matyr in the war for humanity thing. Great stuff. :)
