This book originally appeared as a spiral bound textbook for a Philosophy of Science class at Miskatonic University. The class had 25 honor students from the Philosophy and several Science departments. The purpose of the book was to alter the human mind for further Mi-Go study. However the effects were unpredictable and went beyond the scope of the Mi-Go’s experiment.

A human exposed to the book reads normally until the SAN roll, after the roll they must fail an idea roll or be subject to the full effects of the book. Those who fail their idea roll generally understand enough of the book to pass the class’s final but nothing more. Those who pass however have understood much more of the book and the nature of the physical world.

The reader will find themselves able to better understand the relationships between physical objects, theories of subatomic particles or physiological reactions to visual stimuli. Whatever their field was before, they can now apply themselves to it as a savant.

Those who have understood the book take on several universal personality traits. They will suffer from paranoia of differing strengths, this generally manifests with the reader assuming that everyone else not only is plotting to steal their theories away from them but at the same time can’t possibly understand the real potential of whatever they are working on. The result of this paranoia generally manifests itself as an obsession to “show them all” the true genius of their theories and the application of these theories. Unless they were close with someone before reading the book, the readers tend to become loners, preferring their obsession to the company of others.

The insanity also manifests in a far more dangerous form if someone attempts to separate the reader from their goals. Violence will be less of an ethical question and anyone who gets in their way will be seen as an archenemy, of both the scientist and Science itself.

Finally there is a good chance of megalomania as the reader begins to understand that they are now likely smarter then most other people. The obvious exception to this is others who have read the book, but there is no set pattern to how these people would interact.

Also while the Mi-Go intend to monitor the subjects, an imperfect understanding of the human mind the intended safeguard, a formula that would have given the Mi-Go access to the minds of the readers, only works on people who do not understand the book (failed their idea roll.) For those who understand the book, the best the Mi-Go can do is to attempt to contact them (POWvsPOW, 1mp per min) as well as recognise them (the scientists are all marked by the Mi-Go by the books alteration of their mind.)
