Just thought I'd drop a line about the motivations of the Fate. People on the list have had them running around the world blowing things up, or Stephen Alzis doctoring deals in the Pentagon and Kremlin and so on, when as I ran them (in my Cthulhu Now group 89-90), the group has only one purpose: To serve Alzis' will.

As he is portrayed in the book, it is quite clear that this is a very fickle concept. No one is quite sure what he wants, only that he wants something, and those who don't please him disappear. Alzis, on the other hand knows he is here for a reason, but not what it is or when it will occur. He is simply, as he has been for the past few centuries he can recall, waiting, and so, the rest of the Fate wait with him.

The group does its best to do everything Alzis tells them to do, while pursuing their own ends. Hubert has his Glaaki rituals, Merriweather his music, Agdesh his religion, Yul his magical pursuits etc...etc...

In truth, the Fate is holding a consolidated position, and cares little about expanding territory or eliminating competitors (they have so few...). Alzis occupies his time with Whole Earth Enterprises, and enjoys the interplay of forces in the business world, while occasionally ordering seemingly random attacks to keep the NYC crews in line.

They are, in effect, waiting for something, and not even Alzis knows what.
