<= -3 1d As usual, I started out trying to do this the hard way and eventually came up with a much simpler and elegant solution, which I present here. The following table was calculated on the basis that a success roll of 8+ on 2d6 in Mongoose Traveller is based on an approximately 72/28% ratio of of failure to success based on a 2d6 bell curve. Oddly enough, the ratio of failure to success in getting a matching pair with 3d in ORE is again approximately 72/28%. Handy! I choose this as the baseline for a Traveller character with an average stat of 6-8 (DM 0), a Skill Lvl 0 and an average difficulty task (DM 0) (keep in mind I am matching the odds and not the capabilities and skills of the characters across systems). From there we compare the odds of success in both systems and the odds throughout the range roughly equate to the above table. The +/- 1 to 2 on either side had to be fudged/averaged, but that's OK! There is a 10% chance of success with an ORE roll vice none in Traveller for a modified roll of 6 or 7, so in Traveller terms, converting to ORE, you are being a bit more generous to the players in this one instance. A 1d ORE roll is still valid if you are using something akin to Beginners Luck from WT or some other similar single die mechanic. Otherwise, please feel free to ignore it. Traveller does allow for a "level" of success or failure and shifts in required timeframes to carry out tasks, which system you choose is your choice. Have fun. Extrasolar
