THE IRON FACE EXPERTISE PDF Print E-mail
Written by Chris Cooper
Sunday, 29 November 2009

Also known as the Dancing Demon Head Discipline, Iron Face was developed by strange tribes living in the Grave of Fools. The Truils call them White Faces (wear skull make up from the white clay) and the Ulds call them Skull Dancers. These people revere iron and steel, engineering and metallurgy as the masculine equivalent of childbirth. Blacksmiths are their priests. As such, every member of the tribe may receive metal weapons and equipment based on their birth rank, gender and rite of adulthood. But shields are seen as sacred tools as necessary to survival in the Cold Barrens, so each and every child receives a shield when they turn thirteen.

It is unusual for shields not to be decorated with demonic visages, skulls or screaming ghostly faces with enamelled teeth, tongues of red leather and saucer shaped lacquer eyes. They move in the gloom with the shields hovering in front of their faces, making moaning sounds which carry disturbingly far in the dead still air.

Because this shield is highly ritualised and decorated, it is the face of their guardian spirit or devil, and is decorated as such. Because of its importance, the shield is used for almost any purpose imaginable – shelter, cover, lids for barrows, sleds and as a weapon.

This unusual Martial Path uses Coordination + Shield for its dicepool. It also uses Body + Parry in some techniques. Shields do WS; add the accumulating +1S for large shields and +1S for metal shields.

Dancing Demon Head (One point)
Negate -1d multiple action penalty when combining your Coordination + Shield with a Body + Parry action.

Soul on my Sleeve (Two points)
Negate -2d multiple action penalty when combining your Coordination + Shield with a Coordination + Weapon or Body + Parry action.

Sheltering Lid (Three points)
Add Body to Disarm, Feint, Shove or Slam manoeuvres using your Coordination + Shield.

Shield of Life (Four points)
Add your shield skill to parry actions when using a shield.

Secret Shield Style (Five points)
Swap the W between two of your Coordination + Shield and Body + Parry or Coordination + Weapon sets.

Example: Harucle the Morning Corpse rolls a 4x2 with his shield attack and a 2x7 with his parry. Harucle can turn his sets into 4x7 and 2x2.
