A US Civil War-era cavalry sabre in excellent condition except for some yellowish stains along the curved edge, as if something slightly acidic has etched the metal. It comes with a much more tarnished metal scabbard that is obviously not the original.

History :

If anyone manage to trace the sabre it was made in 1862 and sold to Eric Yancy, a young lieutenant in the Confederate cavalry. Lieutenant Yancy and his cavalry group disappeared in May 1863 during a scouting mission in the Winnechapa hills of Alabama. Three months later an old indian tried to sell the sabre at a trading post. He claimed to have found it in a small river flowing down from the hills.

Notes :

Anyone touching one of the yellowish stains with an open wound (or who is wounded by the sabre) must succeed with a POWx5 roll or be infected with a strange incureable disease that will slowly rot away the skin of the victim. The victim will permanently lose 1d4-1 Hit Points (due to infections) and 1d2-1 CHA each week (though staying in an isolation-ward at a hospital may reduce the Hit Point loss to 1d2-1/week). A Sanity roll with a cost of 0/1d4 each week is also applicable.

Hooks :

1. A Mythos Cult (of the Nyarlathotep avatar "The Skinless One"?) has acquired the sabre and is using it to ritually sacrifice victims by drugging and kidnapping young men and women from night clubs and then giving them a slight cut with the sabre before dropping them off on the street. The mysterious epidemic of "flesh-eating bacteria" may not necessarily interest DG, but when one confused victim awakes during the ceremony and manage to escape, creating large headlines about the horrible satanistic drug-and-rape cult operating in the city a Night at the Opera may well follow.

2. A Tcho-Tcho sorcerer has gotten his hands on the sabre. Using ancient occult knowledge he has found a way to transform the rotting slime left of a victims skin into a potent potion. Unfortunately the potion only affects the one whose skin is used in it, but that doesn't stop the sorcerer from creating a group of potion-swigging skinless Tcho-Tcho enforcers to eliminate any competition in the local mobs. Effects of the Skinslime Potion : Ignore pain and shock. Can only lose 1 HP from an attack. Strength increased by 6.
