Looking over my case file of the Shan, I thought I'd make a few notes on how the Shan possess strange alien abilities besides spellcasting.

ShanAccording to my experience, the Insects from Shaggai are deaf like all insects. This means they do not pay much attention to sounds, even when melded with a human host with excellent hearing. However, they do have electromagnetic senses. This allows them to detect metallic objects and electronics that would be concealed from a human observer. They can also navigate like a carrier pigeon with this electromagnetic perception. Especially astute Shan might even be capable of following broadcasts to their sources, even in the chaotic jungle of signal generated by urban civilization.

If you subscribe to the theory that the Shan can "Choir", singing strange songs that generate and affect electromagnetic fields, then they could conceivably manipulate metal and electronic objects. Say... jarring or jolting a gun that was aimed at them, or shorting out or jamming surveillance devices. With advanced biotechnology, they could even interface with computer systems and gain a measure of control over electronic systems with the influence of their hideous alien artifical organs.

Teleportation is something that would certainly be affected by electromagnetism. In my experience, the Shan can psychically teleport by combining their electromagnetic abilities. This is possible only with great difficulty in Earth's magnetic field, and the teleportation is limited along north-south magnetic lines. The ZIRCON Satellite Constellation was developed to overcome this limitation, but has since met with difficulties of it's own.

Anyway, I hope this adds something to the Shan the next time they are encountered during someone's Ops.
